Gallerai makes the photos on your phone searchable. By the nature of what it does, it accesses your photos. This document explains which data is processed where, and what does and does not leave your device.
1. Your photos
Your photos stay on your device by default. With your permission the app scans your gallery inside the phone: text is read (OCR), visual content is labelled, and the results are stored only on your device.
Your photos stay on your device. Only the search sentence you type is processed. The one exception is described in section 2, and it never happens without your explicit choice.
Location: if a photo carries GPS coordinates, they are resolved to a place name on your device. The coordinates are never sent anywhere, and no external geocoding service is called.
2. Optional AI (cloud analysis)
Some photos cannot be interpreted by the phone alone. If — and only if — you turn on “Scan with AI” in Settings, those photos are downscaled and sent for analysis.
- It takes two deliberate steps. You enable the setting, and then choose to use AI for a particular search or scan.
- Only the photo in question is sent, never your whole gallery. The screen tells you when it happens and how much of your allowance is left.
While that setting is off, no photo is sent anywhere for indexing. If you choose to use Deep Search, that step still contacts the AI — the setting being off does not take the whole app offline.
After analysis the photo is not stored on the server; only the resulting text and labels are written back to your phone.
3. The AI service: OpenAI
Content sent for AI analysis is processed through the OpenAI API. Data sent through that API is not used to train OpenAI models by default. Content is handled by automated systems; OpenAI staff do not routinely open and review it. Access by authorised people may be possible only in limited cases such as security, abuse investigation or legal requirements.
In OpenAI's standard API systems, certain security records may be kept for up to 30 days and are then deleted. This does not mean every photo is kept for 30 days, and no permanent photo archive is created.
4. Internet connection
The app asks for a connection so that ads and promotions can be shown, so that online services work, and so that AI features are available when you specifically ask for them.
These are two separate things and should not be confused: your photos staying on your device is a privacy promise, while the app asking for a connection is an operating condition. If a connection is required, it does not mean your photos are being sent.
5. Scan backup (optional, encrypted)
Scan results normally live only on your phone. If you turn on “Back up my scan results” in Settings, only the text produced by scanning is stored encrypted on our server. This option is off by default and has one purpose: so you do not have to rescan everything when you change phones.
Your photos themselves are never sent. You can delete the backup at any time, and it is deleted automatically if you do not open the app for two months.
6. Account information
Signing in with Google gives us your email address, your name and a link to your profile picture. We use them to identify your account and track your plan and monthly allowance. We do not sell this information.
7. Ads
Ads are shown on the free plan through Google AdMob, which may use advertising identifiers. Ads are not shown on the Premium plan. Ad revenue helps cover the cost of the app and the AI services.
8. Payment
Subscriptions are taken through Google Play, the App Store, or — on this website — through iyzico. We never see or store your card details. What reaches us is limited to the fact of the transaction: amount, date and subscription status.
9. Permissions
- Photo library: required. Without it there is nothing to index and search does not work.
- Notifications: optional. Used to tell you when a long scan has finished.
10. Deleting your data
You can delete your backup from Settings → Scan backup → Delete backup, and your on-device index from Settings → Index status → Reset index. To delete your account entirely, see the data deletion request page.
11. Protection of personal data
For your rights under Turkish Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data and for data controller details, see the KVKK Notice.
12. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated date at the top of this page changes with it. Significant changes are also announced inside the app.
13. Frequently asked questions
Can anyone else see my photos?
No. We do not store your photos on our servers, do not send them to our staff for review, and do not share them with other users.
Is my whole gallery sent to OpenAI?
No. Your entire gallery is not transferred. Simply turning the AI on does not cause any photo to be sent; you then have to choose to use AI for a particular search or scan.
Are my photos used to train the AI?
No. Data sent through the OpenAI API is not used to train OpenAI models by default.
Do I have to rescan if I change phones?
If backup is off, yes. If it is on, largely no — signing in with the same account restores your results.
